However, things took a fortunate turn and the city of Jaipur received heavy showers. In a span of 21 hours from 8:30 am on Friday to 5:30 am today, Jaipur received a whopping 59 mm of rainfall. The city usually doesn’t received such heavy spells of rain during the month of September.
These Monsoon showers can be attributed to a passing trough in the lower levels which was extending from West Rajasthan up to the centre of the well-marked low pressure area. Other parts of Rajasthan including Churu also recorded moderate spells. Churu received 33 mm of rain during the same time frame.
These rains are the highest 24-hour rainfall in a decade. The last time the city received such heavy spells was on September 4, 2011 when 46 mm rain was witnessed. The all-time 24-hour high stands at 187.5 mm which occurred on September 10, 1924.
The monthly total for Jaipur stands at 66 mm and the city has been able to surpass it with these rains. So far, Jaipur has recorded over 69 mm of rains which is ten times more than what the city received last year. Now, rains will reduce and mostly dry weather conditions will take over.
