Southwest Monsoon had become sluggish and has once again started to make progress. Once Monsoon travels over central and northern parts, the Monsoon trough gets established. While the Monsoon trough is yet to be established, a trough has been running along the Gangetic plains for the past couple of days.
This trough which is running from Punjab up to Bihar across West Bengal has been causing good weather activity along the trough line. Parts of the northern plains have already been witnessing some showers for the past two to three days.
Good rains have been witnessed observed over Bihar and West Bengal. Some rainfall activity has been witnessed over Jharkhand and some parts of East Uttar Pradesh as well.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Asansol recorded a whopping 61 mm of rain, followed by Diamond Harbour where 52 mm of rainfall was received. Other areas to have received good rains include Supaul 7.3 mm, Muzaffarpur 12.5 mm, Motihari 7.8 mm, Gorakhpur 1 mm, and Daltonganj 2 mm.
Now, during the next 24 hours, more rains are likely over Jharkhand, foothills of Bihar and East Uttar Pradesh. More pre-Monsoon showers are also expected over Sub-Himalayan and Gangetic West Bengal. Very soon, Monsoon current will start affecting the region which will result in more rains over the region.
