As reiterated by Skymet Weather, heavy pre-Monsoon rain and thundershowers lashed Hyderabad during the wee hours of Friday morning.
The city recorded whopping 75.4 mm of rain, exceeding the highest rainfall record in 24 hours during last 10 years. Prior to this, city had recorded 28.5 m of rain on May 09, 2006.
Around 73 mm of rain was recorded between 2:30 am and 4:30 am, while 2.4 mm was observed thereafter till 6:30 am. Rainfall figures had almost reached very close to its all-time high rain record of 79.3 mm on May 24, 1978.
City has also surpassed its monthly average rainfall of 31.7 mm. So far, the city has recorded 88.1 mm of rain.
In wake of the downpour, minimum temperatures recorded significant drop and settled at 18.3°C, eight degrees below the season’s average. This was also the lowest minimum temperature that city has recorded in last decade against the 21.2°C that recorded on May 9, 2006.
With this, people across Hyderabad woke up to a very pleasant morning with cloudy sky. At 9:30 am, city was observing day temperature of just 23°C.
As the day progresses, we expect weather to clear up and mercury will start rising again. However, day maximum will continue to settle on the lower side in mid 30s on Friday.
Skymet Weather predicts that weather conditions are still favourable for more rains over the city for next three days. Once again the weather activity will be generally confined to late afternoon or late night hours.
The ongoing spell can be attributed to the wind discontinuity seen over Telangana and adjoining region. On Thursday, Hyderabad had recorded maximum temperature of 36.2°C, which was three degrees below normal.
Hyderabad has been witnessing rains and thundershowers for the sixth consecutive day now. These activities had kept the day temperature under check on Thursday.
Till May 4, city was reeling under scorching heat with maximum temperatures settling over 40°C since April 19.
