Rains over Gujarat revived in the last two to three days, and for the last 48 hours, few pockets of Gujarat had been recording exceptionally good showers. Though these rains have remained mainly confined to parts of South Gujarat along with the stations sharing the coastline with the Arabian Sea. However, scattered rains were also observed occasionally over Gujarat region and parts of Saurashtra.

Somewhat similar weather prevailed over these regions on the last day as well. In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Valsad recorded extremely hefty Monsoon rains to the tune of 135 mm, followed by Vadodara at 55 mm, Diu 50 mm, Surat 46 mm, Porbandar 9 mm, Mahuva 8 mm, Ahmedabad 5 mm and Surendranagar recorded 2 mm of light rains.

However, prior to these torrential rains, the state was mainly dry which is why the percentage of seasonal rainfall dropped to a deficit note. As on July 10, Gujarat state as a whole is rain deficient by 46%.

Meanwhile, taking into consideration the two divisions of the state, Gujarat region is still in a better position with 25% rainfall deficiency. On the other hand, Saurashtra and Kutch region is largely rain deficit by 74%.

As per Skymet Weather, the reason for these rains can be attributed with the cyclonic circulation which is persisting for the last few days over South Gujarat.

As of now, we expect rains to continue over the southern districts and a few eastern districts of Gujarat for the next 2-3 days. Thereafter, July 16 onwards, rains would commence over Saurashtra and Kutch region and between July 16 and 20, we expect moderate spell of rains over many parts of Kutch.

Places like Banaskantha, Idar, Bhuj, Kandla, Jamnagar, Sabarkantha may receive good showers. In addition to this, light rains can be expected over Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, and Valsad. These rains would prove to be instrumental in dropping the prevailing rainfall deficiency.
