As predicted by Skymet Weather, another spell of heavy rains lashed several parts of Delhi-NCR on Monday. Rain bearing clouds were seen engulfing the city since early morning hours, with rains following soon.
Intensity of rains has been varying from moderate to heavy, reducing visibility at several places. It has also led to drop in the mercury from 29 ˚C around 10 am to 26˚C at present. Extremely pleasant weather conditions have been prevailing over the city.
Now, the good news is that these rains are here to stay as showers of varying intensity are likely to continue for another 2-3 days.
After recording above normal rains in the month of August, Delhi-NCR has been receiving fairly widespread rainfall activity since the last three days. In fact, we can say that September has started on a rainy note for Delhi-NCR, as several heavy showers have been witnessed till now.
Even though in September rainfall activity reduces significantly and become nearly half of what we receive in the core Monsoon months of July and August, but it has been a different story this time. The reason for these reduced rains is that during mid-September, Monsoon starts retreating from most parts of the country.
During the last three days, good rainfall activity has been recorded in various parts of Delhi-NCR. Some places even exceeded 50 mm. Talking about the Safdarjung and Palam observatory, rains were observed as follows –
Due to these persistence rains, day temperatures in Delhi-NCR have been settling below normal for last many days. Yesterday, Safdarjung Observatory recorded the maximum temperature recorded at 28˚C, which was 6 degrees below normal. Similarly, Palam Observatory too observed day maximum at 28.8˚C, again six degrees below normal.
These rains have been attributed to the cyclonic circulation over Haryana and adjoining areas, along with the axis of Monsoon trough which is seen in the close proximity of the city.
Further also, we expect similar weather conditions to prevail for the next few days. Therefore, we can say that more rains are likely in the coming few days. In fact, heavy rain is expected over parts of Delhi-NCR during the next 24 hours.
Thereafter, as the Monsoon trough will shift slightly southwards and accordingly rainfall activity will also reduce.
