Pre-Monsoon showers have been splashing the state ofPunjabwith occasional rains ever since the month started. In fact, the last 24 hours have been rainy for parts of the state as well.
These recent spells have even resulted in plummeting the mercury levels within a span of 24-48 hours. For instance, on Sunday, the maximum recorded byLudhianawas a scorching 38.1°C which came down to settle at a comfortable 34.6°C as on Monday. Similarly, the daytime high on Sunday for Patiala was 39.2°C as compared to 36.7°C yesterday.
In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, Chandigarh recorded a whopping 44.9 mm of rains, Amritsar 21.3 mm, Jalandhar and Kapurthala both recorded 17 mm each, and Bhatinda witnessed 15 mm of rains.

The sigh of relief for the residents of Punjab is that the rains will not stop here. In fact, moderate to heavy rains are expected to lash parts of the state for the next two days.
As reiterated by Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is also seen over Central Pakistan and adjoining NorthwestRajasthanand Punjab. Moreover, a trough is also seen extending from this system up to eastern parts of the country.

The Western Disturbance is also seen over North Pakistan and adjoiningJammu and Kashmirand is likely to move in an easterly direction. In the wake of all the three weather systems, rains are likely to keep showing up in parts of Punjab. Districts likeAmritsar, Pathankot, Nawanshahr,Patiala,and Gurdaspur are anticipated to witness rains for the next two days.
Thereafter, the rain intensity is likely to reduce as the aforesaid trough will weaken. The state as on June 19 is rain surplus by 71% and the ongoing spells will contribute in adding up to the rainfall statistics. Monsoon is also expected to reach Punjab by the month end and hence the month will end on a rain surplus note for Punjab.
