It seems like rains have made a permanent home over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as it has been raining over the group of islands since last 24-48 hours. Heavy rains were observed over most parts of the southern Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Car Nicobar received a rainfall of 21 mm in last 24 hours while it has so far received over 100 mm of rainfall in last 48 hours.  Nancowry received 22 mm of rainfall in last 24 hours. Port Blair received rainfall of 54 mm in the same span.

These heavy rains are happening over the region because of the low-pressure area which is lying over Sumatra coast and adjoining Andaman Sea. The system is likely to intensify into a depression in next 48 hours.

The system has given fairly widespread rain over Andaman and Nicobar Islands and is likely to continue giving rain over the region for next 24 -48 hours. People who are planning a trip to the beautiful islands are requested to avoid the islands as such weather is most likely to persist for the time being.

In the recent past, due to Cyclone Vardah, many tourists (around 1400 of them) were stranded on the islands due to incessant rainfall.
