Monsoon was active over Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the last 24 hours. In fact, most of the regions have received heavy to very heavy showers. These rains can be attributed to the axis of Monsoon trough which is currently passing through East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, centre of low-pressure area over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and further to Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
In a span of 24 hours, Port Blair recorded 60 mm of Monsoon showers, followed by Mayabunder 40 mm, Car Nicobar 57 mm, Hut Bay 27 mm and Long Island 24 mm.
This will be the second episode of good Monsoon rains in the month of September. Incessant rainfall activity remained absent from Andaman and Nicobar Islands. However, Port Blair has witnessed heavy to extremely heavy rainfall on few occasions, from September 7 till September 9.
Skymet Weather predicts these rains to continue over the region for the next 48 hours as well.
At present, Andaman and Nicobar Islands stand at a 15 percent rainfall below than the normal. However, chances of few good showers in next 2-3 days may lead to some improvement in the prevailing rainfall statistics of the region.
