The hills of North India have been witnessing dry weather conditions. States of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have remained rain free with pleasant weather conditions. However, rains are all set to make an appearance over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
A well-marked low pressure area is over North Madhya Pradesh and adjoining South Uttar Pradesh. The system will gradually move in a northerly direction. A Western Disturbance is also persisting over Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining Himachal Pradesh.
Therefore, moderate to heavy rains are expected to commence over the state of Uttarakhand by tonight. On September 22, the intensity of these rains will further increase over the state. Simultaneously, many districts of Himachal Pradesh barring the western parts will also begin to witness moderate rains with one or two heavy spells.

These moderate to heavy rains are expected to continue until September 23. Thereafter, the intensity of these rains will once again decrease and weather will once again start clearing up. However, until September 23, flash floods and landslides are expected over the higher reaches of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

Thus, the upcoming weekend is not very safe for tourists to take a trip to the hills. Thus, those who have made their plans must postpone it to ensure their safety.
Rains are expected to remain on the lighter side over western areas of Himachal Pradesh. During Navratra, visiting the pilgrim areas of Kangra Devi, Jwala Ji, Chintapoorni and Chamunda are safe since they are located on the western side of Himachal Pradesh.
