For the past many days, the northeastern states were not receiving enough rains and the intensity of showers had reduced to a large extent. These rainfall activities were only light in nature with isolated moderate spells.

The last 24 hours were also quite similar. In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Cherrapunji recorded rain to the tune of 27 mm, Kohima 17 mm, Kailashahar 18 mm, Silchar 4 mm and Guwahati 2 mm of rains.
As per Skymet Weather, the winds were blowing from east and southeast direction and there was an absence of a significant weather system. Thus, the intensity of showers had decreased over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Tripura, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
Now, a cyclonic circulation had developed over the eastern parts of Assam. Moreover, humid winds from the Bay of Bengal are likely to increase moisture over the northeastern states leading to increased rain activities over these parts in the coming days.
As per weathermen, a low-pressure area is also likely to form over West Central Bay of Bengal around May 25. This weather system is expected to move gradually towards Bangladesh or Gangetic West Bengal. Thus, rains are expected to increase more in intensity initially over Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura between May 27 and May 28.
Thereafter, the rain will spread over all the northeastern states. In wake of this, moderate to heavy showers with one or two very heavy spells are possible over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Tripura, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh during that time. Next week would be extremely good for Northeast India in terms of rainfall activity.
The weather across the plains would turn pleasant and the weather conditions in the hilly districts are expected to remain cool during the next one week.
