The state of Uttar Pradesh has been one of the most rain deficient states of the country so far this Monsoon season. In fact, the rainfall deficiency of the state was close to 50% some days back. However, the low-pressure area which was over northwest West Uttar Pradesh has given widespread rains over the state of Uttar Pradesh.
So much so, that isolated pockets of the state had even experienced extremely heavy rains. On July 27, Meerut has recorded extremely heavy three-digit rains to the tune of 226 mm which happens to be the heaviest 24-hour rainfall over the city in a decade.
In fact, on account of the low-pressure area, almost the entire stretch from West Uttar Pradesh to East Uttar Pradesh has been recording good Monsoon showers. This was observed on the last day as well.
In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Sunday, Hamirpur recorded heavy rains to the tune of 84 mm, Orai 75 mm, Varanasi 67 mm, Hardoi 62 mm, Ghazipur 38 mm, Gorakhpur 30 mm, Bareilly 29 mm, Aligarh 18 mm, Agra 11 mm, Bahraich 9 mm, Shahjahanpur 8 mm, Lucknow 6 mm, and Fursatganj recorded 4 mm of rains.

As of now, the low-pressure area has weakened into a cyclonic circulation and can be seen lying over East Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Bihar. Therefore, we expect, heavy to very heavy rains to continue over parts of West Uttar Pradesh for the next 48 hours. Along with this, light to moderate with one or two heavy spells may occur over remaining parts of the state.

Moreover, another low-pressure area is expected to develop once again over East Uttar Pradesh in the next two days. This would lead to an increase in the rain activity over the eastern parts of the state in cities like Varanasi, and Ghazipur for the next 3-4 days.
Some parts of the state may also witness flood-like situation due to excess rains and waterlog. Cities like Orai, Hamirpur, Banda, and Hardoi are expected to be more affected by the flood-like conditions. These rains would be instrumental in pulling down the prevailing rainfall deficiency of the state that stands at -32% for East Uttar Pradesh and at 1% for West Uttar Pradesh.
