Heavy rains in Northeast India hamper Sukhoi’s search process

The northeastern region of the country observes good rains all throughout the year. While many parts of the country are reeling under heatwave conditions, the seven sister states continue to witness good showers.

The last 24 hours were no different and the region did receive a few good spells of rainfall. The fighter jet of the Indian Air Force, Sukhoi has been missing since Tuesday. It flew from Tezpur airbase in Assam. The inclement weather conditions have been hampering the search process of the missing jet.

In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Tezpur in Assam recorded a whopping 96 mm of rain which was followed by 89 mm of rain in Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh.

Other areas also received good rains including North Lakhimpur 66 mm, Dibrugarh 48 mm, Chaparmukh 10 mm, Imphal 12 mm, Golaghat 5 mm, Goalpara 14 mm, and Guwahati 2 mm.

These weather conditions are attributed to the trough which is in proximity of the region. Not only this, moisture incursion has also been taking place from Bay of Bengal. With this, good rains occurred over the states.

As per weathermen at Skymet, these weather conditions are likely to persist for the next few days as well. Thus, the search operations of the missing jet will also continue to be hampered.
