On and off rains have been occurring over Uttar Pradesh and Bihar from last many days wherein, most districts of both the states have recorded three-digit rainfall figure as well. In the last 24 hours, foothills of both Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have recorded some good spells, rain intensity over Bihar was more in contrast with that in Uttar Pradesh.
Within the span of last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Thursday, Patna recorded a three-digit rain to the tune of 107 mm, Bhagalpur 18 mm, Gaya 15.4 mm, Chapra 10.6 mm, Muzaffarpur 9.8 mm, Gorakhpur 15.9 mm and Bahraich recorded 3.2 mm of rains.
As per Skymet Weather, the axis of Monsoon trough has now shifted to the foothills of the Himalayan region. In the wake of this trough, moderate to heavy spells will continue in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Moreover, at present, heavy to extremely heavy rains are going on in Nepal Hills. These heavy rains along with the moderate to heavy with one or two very heavy rains in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar may arouse threat of flash floods primarily in the foothills of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. These floods may refresh the memories of the inundation that occurred in parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar a few days back.

Sharda, Gomti and Ghagra rivers in Uttar Pradesh while Bagmati, Koshi and Narayani rivers in Bihar may swell due to these rains thus leading to flooding in the aforesaid regions.

Mainly the districts such as Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, Barabanki, Balrampur, Gonda, and Faizabad in the state of Uttar Pradesh while Motihari, and Champaran stations in Bihar are most likely to get affected by flood. Such flood causing rains are likely to occur within the next 2-3 days.
Thereafter, the rain intensity in the foothills is expected to reduce as the axis of Monsoon trough is expected to shift towards the south. Moreover, a low-pressure area holds a strong chance to develop over Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. Thus, resulting in the rain intensity to reduce over the foothills of both Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
In addition, as the heavy rain activities are not anticipated to be for a longer duration, the flooding situation will also not be devastating. However, minor flooding and water logging issues cannot be ruled out. Hence, proper caution is advised.
