The last 24 hours were also no different for the glamourous city of India. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, the Santa Cruz observatory in Mumbai recorded 79 mm of rain. Also, good rains were witnessed over the Colaba observatory that observed heavy showers of 50 mm.

All because of the off shore trough that is running along the West Coast from Gujarat to Kerala. Besides this, a cyclonic circulation also persists over the Kutch and adjoining South Rajasthan which has been increasing moisture over Mumbai. Furthermore, the depression in the Northwest Bay of Bengal has also been resulting in moisture pull from the Arabian Sea. As a consequence, the combined impact of these weather systems has resulted in heavy rains over Mumbai in the past 48 hours.

Nonetheless due to these downpours, many parts of the city have been enduring with water logging that is resulting in traffic jams and delayed locals. Thane Municipal Corporation has issued an alert, asking the residents to step out only if necessary.

As per Skymet Weather, these rains are expected to be heavy to very heavy during the next 24 hours. Thus, the weather conditions will remain pleasant with temperatures settling below the normal levels.

So far in the month of july, Mumbai has recorded a total of 659.8 mm of rain against its monthly average of 799.7 mm. It's evident that the city has already reached close to its target. With more rains in offing, Mumbai is likely to surpass its monthly mean.
