Fairly widespread rains occurred over the state of Maharashtra on Wednesday, which were instrumental in dropping the temperatures that were settling near the 45-degree mark to high 30’s.
Parts of Madhya Maharashtra and South Konkan division recorded more intense spells in contrast with the rains over parts of Marathwada and Vidarbha were comparatively less intense.
During the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Wednesday, Yeotmal recorded 45 mm of rains, Mumbai’s Colaba observatory recorded 36 mm of rains, Udgir 24 mm, Ratnagiri 20 mm of rains, Pune 19 mm, Solapur 19 mm, Harnai 17 mm, Mahabaleshwar 17 mm, Wardha 16 mm, Jalgaon 13 mm, Sangli 9 mm, Parbhani 7 mm, Nagpur 6 mm and Malegaon recorded 4 mm of rains.

In the wake of these rains, the temperatures of Madhya Maharashtra and Vidarbha dropped by 3-4 degrees Celsius. As per Skymet Weather, an offshore trough is extending from South Konkan to Kerala and a cyclonic circulation can be marked over Madhya Maharashtra and adjoining South Konkan.

Due to this weather system, we expect, moderate to heavy rains to continue over Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada, and gradually, the rains would also increase over Konkan region. Additionally, the much awaited Southwest Monsoon is also expected to make an onset over parts of South Maharashtra in the next 24 hours.

Complete preparatory tillage and keep fields ready for sowing kharif soybean, sorghum, bajra and improved varieties and local varieties.
Farmers should provide mechanical support to orchards, staking in vegetables. In view of expected isolated heavy to extremely heavy rains over Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra, farmers should avoid irrigation, intercultural operation and application of plant protection measures and fertilizers to the standing crops. In Konkan, continue nursery sowing of kharif rice.
