In the last 24 hours, Uttar Pradesh witnessed extremely good rains, which has resulted in a significant decrease in the temperatures. Moderate to heavy with very heavy rains were witnessed over West and Central Uttar Pradesh and some parts of East Uttar Pradesh.

In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Thursday, Bahraich witnessed heavy rain to the tune of 71 mm, Shahjahanpur 64 mm, Gorakhpur 57 mm, Fursatganj 41 mm, Bareilly 49 mm and Varanasi 30 mm of rain. The state capital, Lucknow also recorded moderate intensity rain of 21 mm. In the same span of time, Orai and Kanpur recorded light intensity Monsoon showers.
These hefty showers can be attributed to a well a marked Low-Pressure area which is over Southwest Uttar Pradesh. It will gradually move in a northerly direction towards the western parts of the state and may weaken into a Low-Pressure area by tomorrow.
As per Skymet Weather, moderate to heavy rains with one or two very heavy spells are likely over the western parts of the state on Friday. Places such as Bareilly, Moradabad, Bahraich, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Bulandshahar and Agra will witness hefty showers. The intensity of rain will decrease over the eastern parts and southern parts of the state. Varanasi, Allahabad, Gorakhpur, Mirzapur are likely to receive light rains only.

Meanwhile, Lucknow, Kanpur which comes under the central parts of the state will witness moderate with one or two heavy spells today and thereafter the rain intensity will reduce gradually.
As on September 21, West Uttar Pradesh is rain deficient by 39 percent and East Uttar Pradesh by 30 percent. With these hefty showers over the state, it is expected that the rain deficiency will reduce marginally.
