Heavy rains in Kedarnath, Badrinath, Manali; Chances of Landslide

June 19, 2017 3:32 PM | Skymet Weather Team

The hilly states of India have been receiving rainfall from past few days making the weather pleasant across the most places. A lot of tourists have also been spotted at Shimla, Manali, Srinagar, and Mussoorie.

As per Skymet Weather, a Western Disturbance is over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir. Due to this weather system, we expect rainfall activities over the region. Further, back to back Western Disturbances will affect the Western Himalayas for the next two to three days.

Few places may receive heavy rain spells also. In wake of these weather activities chances of landslides and flash floods have increased.

Live lightning and thunderstorm across Western Himalayas

During this period, moderate to heavy rainfall are expected therefore it is advisable not to head towards the tourist spots of these states for a vacation, particularly over the high altitudes as heavy rains sometimes lead to water logging and traffic jams.

But the lower altitude spots such as Dehradun, Rishikesh, Haridwar, and Shimla are relatively safer than Badrinath, Kedarnath, Chamba, Srinagar, and Manali where incidents of landslides are much more probable.

As on June 18, Jammu and Kashmir is surplus by 18% rainfall, Himachal Pradesh 5% whereas Uttarakhand is deficit by 13% rains.

As we expect good rains to continue, the surplus of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh will increase and Uttarakhand is likely to cover its deficit rainfall.
