The month of August was a disappointing month for the state of Gujarat with the deficiency being over 50 percent in both the subdivisions of the state including Saurashtra and Kutch as well as Gujarat region.
However, the month of September completely turned tables for the state and Gujarat has seen some intense rainfall activities in the past few days. So much so that heavy showers have been witnessed over many parts of the state three digit 24 hours rainfall.
In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Rajkot witnessed 203 mm of rains, Porbandar 144 mm, Valsad 127 mm, and Okha 63 mm.
With these heavy rains, the deficiency numbers have drastically reduced and come down in the normal range in one of the subdivisions, i.e. Saurashtra and Kutch at -7 percent wherein Gujarat region’s deficiency is at -32 percent. As far as the entire state is concerned, the deficiency stands at -22 percent.
These rainfall activities have been attributed to the system that formed in the Bay and intensified into a deep depression. This system has also led to the oscillation of the system over Rajasthan region which has further intensified rains over Gujarat.
Now, as per weathermen, rainfall activity will be on the heavier side over Saurashtra region for the next 24 to 36 hours. Coastal parts will see a reduction in rains but rainfall will continue over Saurashtra for the next few days.
