Incessant rains causes flash floods in Philippines, 5 killed

Since last many days, northeastern states has been receiving moderate to heavy rain and thundershower activities. Which thereafter resulted in flooding in many parts of Assam and adjoining areas. In spite of these ongoing heavy rainfall over Meghalaya is still rain deficient.

However, these rainfall and thundershower activities may continue to occur over northeastern states during the next 24 to 48 hours.

In the span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Pasighat recorded 94 mm of rainfall, Gangtok 87 mm, Rangia 52 mm, North Lakhimpur 41 mm, Silchar 37 mm, Lengpui 30 mm, Tangla 15 mm, Majbat 14 mm, Gauhati 5 mm, Imphal 4 mm, Dibrugarh 0.7 mm.

According to Skymet Weather, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are surplus by 66% of rainfall. While Arunachal Pradesh is surplus by 16% and Assam, Meghalaya is surplus by 8% as on June 18. It is due to the overall cumulative average of normal rainfall over northeastern states which is expected to remain very high to overcome these rain deficient areas by the normal margins.

However, these moderate showers are likely to continue over these regions for the next two to three days. Thereafter, the intensity of rainfall may reduce marginally.

Now, we do not expect the dry spell to prevail over these regions for the next coming days. This heavy rainfall and thundershower activities are likely to continue during the next four to five days over these regions. But however, we do not expect this scenario to prevail over the rest parts of Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh.
