Many parts of West Bengal have been receiving good spells of rain for the past many days. In fact, the capital city, Kolkata has also recorded a few heavy spells on some occasions.
Owing to this, we can say that the Southwest Monsoon remained active to vigorous over West Bengal and hardly the state remained rain free.

Due to these showers, the mercury level has also plummeted by 2-3 notches, thus leading to comfortable and pleasant weather for the residents.
The last 24 hours were also no different and very heavy rains were recorded in Sub Himalayan West Bengal, while Gangetic West Bengal received moderate to heavy rains.
In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Friday, Jalpaiguri received a whopping 295 mm of rainfall, followed by Cooch Behar 233 mm, Siliguri 105 mm, Bankura 104 mm, Malda 102 mm, Burdhwan 33 mm, Asansol 22 mm, Sri Niketan 18 mm and Midnapore 5 mm.

The reason for these rains can be attributed to the axis of Monsoon trough which is currently running across West Bengal.
Therefore, as per weathermen at Skymet Weather, moderate to heavy rains are likely to continue over several parts of West Bengal for the next 2 to 3 days. Parts of Sub Himalayan West Bengal in particular may receive very heavy rains. The city of Joy, Kolkata would record light to moderate rains.
Moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers are possible at many places over Bankura, East Midnapore, Hugli, Kolkata, Purulia, West Midnapore districts of Gangetic of West bengal. Very heavy rain may occur at Siliguri, Cooch Behar,Jalpaiguri, North Dinajpur and Malda districts of Sub Himalayan West Bengal during the next 24 hours.
Thus, pleasant weather conditions will continue over the state. Afterward decrease in rain intensity is anticipated over West Bengal.
As on August 11, West Bengal is rain surplus by 2%.
