Heavy Rains For Car Nicobar, Port Blair: Fresh Low Pressure Likely

November 30, 2022 5:38 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Cyclonic circulation over Malay Peninsula, Strait of Malacca and South Andaman Sea is throwing up clouds far to the north, up to Bay of Bengal(BoB) islands. It is setting off freak wet spell right over entrance of Andaman Sea and extending further up to Bay Islands covering Nancowry, Car Nicobar, Hut Bay and Port Blair. This rainy spell, light to moderate in nature, will last for 3 days, till 02nd Dec.

A fresh cyclonic circulation from the Gulf of Thailand will be moving westward to get parked over Northern parts of Strait of Malacca and Malay Peninsula on 03rd Dec. This feature will shift over South Andaman Sea and adjoining BoB on 04th Dec. Simultaneous merger of these two systems will churn out a low pressure area, on the same day, over Southeast BoB.

Sailing over favourable oceanic waters with adequate heat potential, the weather system may intensify to a depression, the next day and also move over the southern parts of central BoB. Moving rapidly and intensifying speedily, possibly to a deep depression or even a grade higher and lying over Southwest BoB,  Sri Lanka and Coastal Tamil Nadu will run the risk of stormy weather conditions on 06th and 07th Dec.

Prior to the onslaught on Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu, entire chain of north-south oriented Bay islands will experience rough weather between 04th and 06th Dec. Moderate to heavy rains with squally winds are likely over Car Nicobar and Port Blair. Lightning storms with gusty winds may have pockets of hazardous weather conditions, particularly on 04th and 05th Dec. Conditions will improve on 07th Dec, significantly. However, the pause in inclement weather conditions will be short and brief, as another cyclonic circulation may appear over the same area on 08th Dec, albeit the system will have a tendency to track southward in the equatorial latitudes, likely to be at a safe distance from the strategic islands.
