Heavy rains had lashed Surat, Valsad and Navsari districts of southern Gujarat on Thursday. Due to these incessant showers, the total number of death toll has also increased. During the last 24 hours also, many other parts of Gujarat including Veraval and Ahmedabad have received heavy to very heavy rains. Saurashtra region also received heavy rainfall in the last couple of days.
Within a span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Veraval recorded 151.5 mm of rainfall, followed by Ahmedabad 88.5 mm, Dwarka 58 mm, Porbandar 50.9 mm, Surat 33.4 mm, Naliya 25 mm, Deesa 13.2 mm, Okha 6.1 mm, Idar 4.1 mm, Amreli 3.8 mm, Bhavnagar 2.4 mm, Rajkot 0.6 mm and Bhuj 0.1 mm.

According to Skymet Weather, a low-pressure area was over the Kutch region. Due to this, heavy to very heavy rains occurred over parts of Gujarat. Moreover, as this weather system still persists over the Kutch region, more rains are likely to continue over Gujarat and adjoining areas for the next two days. The intensity of rains and thundershowers is expected to reduce marginally, scattered light rains along with few moderate spells cannot be ruled out over Gujarat. As of now, the month of July has been the rainiest for Gujarat.

As on July 20, Gujarat and Kutch region are both rain surplus by 4% and 51% respectively. However, due to these on and off rains, the rain surplus is further anticipated to increase.
