Heavy Rains Coming Up Over Gujarat, Saurashtra Gets Heavier Than Other Parts

Heavy rains are likely over most parts of Gujarat during this week. Saurashtra and Kutch will be wetter than parts of central and north Gujarat. Flooding rains are likely along the coastline of Saurashtra, joining the Gulf of Kutch. Heavy rains will not attack simultaneously all parts and likely to get staggered.

There is a cyclonic circulation over parts of Chhattisgarh and adjoining areas. The feature will move westward and come closer to the eastern boundary of the state. Also, an east-west shear zone is running parallel to about 20°N in the close proximity of the state.  Yet another weather system as cyclonic circulation is coming up over Southwest Pakistan region, contiguous to parts of Saurashtra & Kutch. Under the combined influence of these weather systems, monsoon activity will become active to vigorous over the state during this week. Activity could be harsher on 18th and 19th than the other days.

State of Gujarat has two sub-divisions : Saurashtra & Kutch and Gujarat.  Saurashtra an Kutch has received adequate rainfall with a surplus of 19 % between 01stJune and 14thJuly. However, Gujarat has a shortfall of 21% rainfall during the same period. Rains are likely almost over all parts, commencing today itself and becoming heavier closer to the weekend.

Ahmedabad, Baroda, Gandhinagar, Anand in central Gujarat and Mahuva, Veraval, Bhavnagar, Somnath and Una -Diu along Saurashtra Coast will have moderate rain and thundershowers on 16thJuly. These rains will spread and cover more parts of Saurashtra like, Amreli, Junagarh, Porbandar and Dwarka, the next day.  Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over more parts of Saurashtra and Kutch on 18th and 19thJuly. These will include Dwarka, Okha, Porbandar, Jamnagar, Morbi, Rajkot and Kutch inclusive of Bhuj and Naliya. These heavy rains may spell trouble for parts of Saurashtra and Kutch, more so, the western half of the sub-division. South Coastal Gujarat, from Vapi-Navsari to Valsad-Surat will receive moderate to heavy rainfall during the period between 15th and 20thJuly.
