Heavy rains claim 7 lives in Hyderabad, traffic on tumultuous levels

Reports are coming from various sources that at least seven people were killed due to incessant rainfall in Hyderabad. Three of them died from a wall collapse at Musheerabad in the city. Heavy rains have created ruckus in Hyderabad troubling the regular day to day life.

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner Janardhan Reddy has asked the people of the city not to travel for an hour in the city due to heavy rains. This step has been taken to avoid any unexpected events due to heavy rains in the city.

Reddy is also expected to meet the chief secretary to look for a probable solution to rectify the situation as soon as possible.

The areas affected include Chilkalguda, Road No 10 Banjara Hills, KCP Junction, Hospital, Adikmet flyover, Tolichowki X Road, Begum Bazar L&O PS, Tilak Nagar Railway Bridge, Allagadabavi, Afzal Gunj, ST. Anns School, Fever Hospital, Nampally, Medicity, Nalgonda X road, AY Mandali, Panjagutta, Nagarjuna Circle.

Heavy traffic snarls and congestions were also seen at Balkampet X Road, Taj Krishna towards KCP, Road no 1/12, Sri Nagar T Junction due to heavy waterlogging. Reports of heavy rains in parts various parts of Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra Pradesh have caused flash floods in many districts.

Vijayawada in Coastal Andhra Pradesh received very good showers during last 24 hours. The coastal city recorded 72 mm of rainfall. Bapatla also recorded 21 mm of rainfall, Tirupati 12 mm, Visakhapatnam also 7.6 mm, Ongole 5 mm and Machilipatnam 4 mm of rains.

In the span of 24 hours, from 08:30 am yesterday till 08:30 am today, the city of Hyderabad has received 17.6 mm of rains, but thereafter, rainfall increased significantly and in the span of merely 3 hours, the city recorded 71 mm of rainfall from 08:30 am to 11:30 am.
