Heavy Monsoon rains lashed many areas of Maharashtra including Nashik on Sunday. In the last 21 hours, the city has recorded 135 mm of heavy rainfall, which is still continuing in many parts. Due to incessant rains, Nashik’s famous Trimbakeshwar temple is flooded, with water gushing through the premises of the famous temple.
The city has been observing good amounts of rain since the last 48 hours, leading to flooding in many areas. According to the District Collector Suraj Mandhare, ‘With heavy showers lashing most of the areas of Maharashtra on Sunday and water being released from Gangapur Dam, the Godavari river in the region has been flowing above the danger mark.
The reason for these disastrous showers can be attributed to the Trough extending from Gujarat up to the North Bay of Bengal. A Cyclonic Circulation is also over the North Bay of Bengal, extending up to 6.7 km above the sea level. As these systems are likely to persist for some time, we expect moderate showers with one or two intense spells in Nashik and adjoining areas during the next 24 hours, which may lead to waterlogging and flooding in more areas. Thereafter, the intensity will become feeble, however, on and off rainfall activities would continue for a couple of days more.
The meteorological divisions of Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan and Goa have been experiencing heavy rains since the last two to three days. And we expect a gradual decrease in the rainfall activities of North Konkan and Goa and North Madhya Maharashtra including Nashik, Malegaon, and adjoining areas after 24 hours.
