Since last many days, on and off rains and thundershowers have been occurring over the hills of western Himalayas. Hence, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have been continuously experiencing light to moderate rainfall activities.
In a span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Katra recorded 72 mm of rainfall, Dharamsala 55.6 mm, Pantnagar and Gulmarg 7.4 mm, Batote 4.2 mm, Solan 3.4 mm and Jammu 1.5 mm.
Places such as Dharamsala, Mandi and adjoining areas have been observing and may continue to record moderate to heavy rains and thundershowers for the next few days. Now, the axis of Monsoon trough is likely to shift towards the foothills of Himalayas by the end of this Month.

Due to this, the intensity of rainfall over these states will increase significantly. Therefore, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh may receive moderate to heavy rainfall activities between July 31 and August 1.The chances of flash floods and landslides are also expected to occur over this region during that time. Whereas, light to moderate rains are expected over Jammu and Kashmir.
As on July 27, the subdivision rainfall distribution statistics shows that Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand are both rain surplus by 40% and 5%, respectively. Whereas, Himachal Pradesh is rain deficient by 16%.
