At present, a cyclonic circulation is seen overManipur, Mizoram and adjoining areas of Bangladesh. In fact, the persisting circulation over the Andhra andOdishacoast has gradually moved northwards.
Moderate rain at many places and heavy at one or two places are going on for the many days over Northeast India. But, now the intensity of rain is said to increase significantly after 24 hours over entire northeastern states.
By June 13, we expect heavy to extremely heavy rains over some parts of Meghalaya, Assam, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. These heavy rains will mark the commencement of Southwest Monson over the region.
The Southwest Monsoon has already covered entire Coastal and South InteriorKarnatakaand some parts of North Interior Karnataka. Some parts of Rayalaseema, south Coastal Andhra Pradesh, eastcentral Bay of Bengal and some parts of northeast Bay of Bengal have also come under its purview. The situation is conducive for Monsoon 2016 to cover entire Northeast India by June 12-13.
The cyclonic circulation will persist over Northeast India and enhance rainfall activity there. Low-lying areas could also witness inundation and flooding.
