The depression over southwest Bay of Bengal has struck the Tamil Nadu coast near Nagapattinam, hence, Heavy rain to lash coastal Tamil Nadu for next 24 hours. Strong winds in the range of about 45 to 55 kmph will affect life over this region.
The system will not strengthen further after hitting the coast and is likely to move westwards, affecting weather conditions over the entire peninsular India, including south interior Karnataka, Kerala and Rayalseema. Fairly widespread with heavy rainfall at some places over Tamil Nadu and good amounts of showers over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and south interior Karnataka is expected in the next 24 hours. Coastal areas of Southern Peninsula will continue to receive rainfall in the coming week, with a short break of possibly two days during the 18th to 20th of November.
Another feeble tropical storm is expected to come up in the Bay of Bengal, which will cause another spell of good rainfall over Southern Peninsula. However this system in no way will be similar to Phailin which witnessed strong winds and torrential rains. Another difference between Phailin and the present weather system will be their paths. This system will move westward to affect Tamil Nadu. Phailin on the other hand had moved north-westwards from its place of origination in the southeast Bay of Bengal and reached Odisha and north coastal Andhra Pradesh.
With these weather systems, Northeast Monsoon in South India will get back on track with enough rain to possibly mitigate the deficiency in the first half of November.
