Heavy Rainfall Over Vidarbha, More Showers Likely

Many parts of Maharashtra have received moderate to heavy showers in the past 24hr.  Konkan and Vidarbha had the major share. Showers were fairly wide spread in Vidarbha and very heavy rainfall was observed at Akola and Buldhana. More showers are expected over the next 3 days.

All 4 sub divisions of Maharashtra, namely Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha were running deficit till the 3rd week of June. Courtesy, few good showers, Marathwada recovered to have surplus of 11% rainfall as on 28thJune. However, the rest of the sub-divisions continue to be deficit, albeit with marginal recovery.  Akola, Buldhana, Gadchiroli and Nagpur received 123mm, 87mm, 31mm and 16mm rainfall respectively. Even Yeotmal and Wardha also got light to moderate showers.  Some of the other locations remained nearly dry.

With these heavy showers yesterday, Akola has measured total of 317mm and Buldhana 167mm between 01st – 28th June.  Both locations have surpassed their monthly normal rainfall of 146.3mm and 163.4mm respectively. Akola is nearly heading for a record rainfall in the month of June.

A cyclonic circulation is coming up over parts of East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh in the lowers level, shifting gradually westward. More showers are likely over Vidarbha in the next 3 days. Other parts of Maharashtra also will witness scattered rainfall of light to moderate intensity during this period.  More heavy rains can be expected for the entire region, around 1st half of next week.
