During last 24 hours, several parts of the country received heavy rainfall. Moderate to heavy rainfall was observed in various pockets of the country, except for Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab, and hilly states in the north. Good rainfall in these parts brought down day temperatures and led to pleasant conditions.
Places like Kota and Mount Abu in southeast Rajasthan received heavy rainfall. Also, in West Uttar Pradesh, moderate to heavy rainfall was witnessed in Agra, Aligarh, Hardoi, Lucknow, Shahjahanpur, and Bareilly. Out of these, Shahajahanpur with 87.2 mm rainfall observed the heaviest rainfall.
In the state of Jharkhand, Daltonganj and Ranchi both received 60 mm of rain. Whereas in Chhattisgarh, Raipur, Pendra, Jagdalpur, and Bilaspur received good rainfall. While Jagdalpur received 79 mm, Bilaspur observed 74 mm of rain.
In North East India, Cherrapunji recorded 162.2 mm rainfall and Pasighat received 115 mm of rain. Heavy rainfall was also observed over parts of Karnataka, West Bengal, and coastal Andhra Pradesh. Hence, it is safe to say that Monsoon was active over most parts of the country in the last 24 hours.
Numerically speaking, cumulative rainfall deficiency in the country points towards below normal rains. But as far as agriculture is concerned, good rains are occurring over most parts of the country which will boost overall crop yield this year. We can attribute the countrywide below normal rainfall figures to the fact that only subdued rainfall is being observed on the West Coast as well as the northeast states, and the average rainfall in these parts of the country is on the higher side.
However, it must be noted that subdued rainfall in these parts will not affect the country’s overall crop yield, as these areas aren’t major contributors to India’s agricultural produce. Plentiful rains are being observed in areas where Kharif crops are sowed.
