Relentless rain post withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon has marked the beginning of October in most parts of Maharashtra where almost all four sub-divisions have received excess rainfall in last four days. While moderate to heavy rainfall has brought relief from the long lasting drought situation in Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra, it has also caused flood like situation in these areas, leading to overflowing dams in the region.
The cyclonic circulation which originated in the west central Arabian Sea few days back had been affecting Maharashtra along with Telangana. Owing to which Marathwada has received 400% more than the normal rainfall in first four days of October while Madhya Maharashtra witnessed rainfall to the tune of 140% excess.
Currently, the cyclonic circulation is persisting over Saurashtra and Kutch that will give heavy rain over Gujarat and northern parts of Maharashtra including Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan & Goa. However, this will not mean that weather will go dry in other parts of this western state. Vidarbha and Marathwada will continue to observe scattered rain activity for next 48 hours.
These excess rains are likely to adversely affect standing kharif crop in areas of Maharashtra. It may lead to delayed harvesting and a decrease in the yield as well as quality of the crop.
