The remnants of Cyclone FENGAL, a deep depression, are bringing heavy rainfall to parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The system has weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area over North interior Tamil Nadu and is expected to move towards the southeast and adjoining East Central Arabian Sea off the north Kerala and Karnataka coast around December 3rd.
Interior parts of Tamil Nadu are likely to experience moderate to heavy rain for the next 24 hours. However, many districts of Kerala are bracing for heavy to very heavy rainfall during the same period. In the past 24 hours, Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu recorded 162 mm of rainfall, Salem 60 mm, and Tirupattur 73 mm. In Kerala, Cochin received 146 mm of rainfall and Kozhikode 70 mm. While rainfall activity in Tamil Nadu may reduce after 24-48 hours, Kerala could continue to experience heavy rain until December 4th.
A low-pressure area is forming in the Arabian Sea and may intensify. But as it moves westward, away from the coast, there is no immediate threat to Kerala, Karnataka, or Maharashtra after December 5th. Residents of Kerala, especially in coastal areas, are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions to avoid any potential flooding or other weather-related hazards.
