Heavy Rain to Lash Madhya Pradesh, Bringing Relief to Farmers

June 19, 2024 4:20 PM |

The monsoon rains, eagerly awaited by Madhya Pradesh farmers, have finally shown signs of arrival. Though the onset was delayed, with light and scattered showers until June 17, rain activity has picked up significantly in the last 24 hours.

As of June 18, rain deficiency remains a concern, with western Madhya Pradesh facing a 43% deficit and the eastern part a staggering 72%. However, the good news is that the predicts heavy to very heavy rain over the eastern districts of the state in the next two days. This much-needed downpour is expected to first grace districts like Umaria, Dindori, Mandla, Jabalpur, Katni, Damoh, Sagar, Raisen, Hoshangabad, Chhindwara, Seoni, and Balaghat. The rain activity will then gradually shift westward, covering areas like Ashok Nagar, Vidisha, Bhopal, Shajapur, Rajgarh, Dewas, Harda, Sehore, Betul, and Khandwa with moderate to heavy showers on June 21 and 22.

This significant rainfall event is expected to be a turning point for the monsoon season in Madhya Pradesh. The "rain smell," as farmers often describe it, will pull the monsoon further into the state, significantly reducing the current rain deficiency. Farmers across Madhya Pradesh have been anxiously waiting for these rains. This burst of monsoon activity will undoubtedly boost their spirits and prepare the land for a successful Rabi crop season. Increased soil moisture will facilitate the sowing of crops, ensuring a productive harvest in the coming months.
