The month of June has brought heavy to very heavy rain over Konkan and Goa. Continuous moderate to heavy rain is being observed in the region since June 7. Monsoon arrived over Goa on June 8, which is the normal onset date for the state.

At present, a trough is running from South Gujarat to coastal Kerala and Monsoon surge is active over Konkan and Goa. Therefore, moderate to heavy rain is expected to continue over Goa for next one week.

Normal rainfall for Goa in the month of June stands at 861.5 mm. Whereas the highest 24-hour rainfall figure for the state is 366.6 mm, which was recorded on June 12, 1999. In the last 24 hours, Goa has received 92 mm rainfall.

In June this year, Goa has recorded 363.6 mm rainfall so far. To put things into perspective, Goa recorded just 461 mm rainfall in June last year. But this year in 2015, with more than half a month to go, the state has already recorded more than 3/4 th of the total rain recorded in June 2014. There’s a very good chance that Goa will record normal to above normal rainfall for the month of June this year.

Temperatures in the state are settling marginally below normal. This is because Goa usually receives good amount of rainfall during this time of the year and hence temperatures remain under check. Lakhs of tourists visit Goa at this time of the year as the weather is simply perfect for exploring the region.
