East Bihar had been receiving light to moderate rain till now. In fact, Monsoon remained subdued over most of East India till now. Though Southwest Monsoon covered the entire India today, leading to the northward shift of the axis of Monsoon.
Till now, the axis of Monsoon was over Central India that had been receiving heavy to extremely heavy rain due to the low-pressure area. Due to this weather activity, Northern Plains of India were suffering from lack of good Monsoon rains.
However, the axis will now shift northwards and by July 14, it will reach the foothills of Himalayas. Rain intensity will, therefore, increase significantly over East India namely Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand. Due to heavy rain, landslides may occur over the hilly regions of these states.
Sometimes cumulonimbus clouds develop over these areas that give intense thundershower activity along with lightning. Areas in East India like Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Bihar become susceptible to severe thundershower activity.
Normally, these activities are more common during the Pre-Monsoon and Post-Monsoon season but such type of activities cannot be ruled out in Monsoon season as well. Most of the rainfall occurs due to the sheet clouds or medium clouds but on and off convective clouds also develop which have the potential of giving lightning and thundershowers.
