Heavy rain spell approaching Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh

September 3, 2023 12:29 PM | Skymet Weather Team

The weather in Madhya Pradesh has been almost dry for the last many days. Maharashtra has also not performed any better. However, Konkan and Goa and adjoining parts of Madhya Maharashtra have been receiving some decent showers. Rain activities will gradually intensify over Marathwada and South Madhya Maharashtra. Thereafter, rain will shift northward over Vidarbha and adjoining parts of Madhya Maharashtra. Rain will commence over eastern parts of Madhya Pradesh from September 5th and by the 6th or 7th of September, there will be widespread rainfall over many parts of Madhya Pradesh.

These two states are in dire need of rainfall. Crops are on the verge of collapse. This rain spell will certainly give a new lease of life to the dying crops. The month of August went almost dry for Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. The reason for this intense rain activity can be attributed to the formation of a low-pressure area over the Northwest Bay of Bengal and a cyclonic circulation over North interior Karnataka. The low-pressure area will gradually move in a westerly direction towards south Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. The interaction between these two weather systems will intensify the rain activities over many states including Chhattisgarh and Telangana.

We expect that scattered rain to continue over these states for at least the next seven to eight days.
