Heavy rain and thundershower activities have been battering the Pune city since the last two to three days. According to Skymet’s AWS data, the city has recorded heavy showers to the tune of 90 mm in a span of just 21 hours until 5:30 am today.
On Wednesday, heavy rains wrecked havoc in many parts of the city, wherein major areas of the city such as Sahakarnagar, Parvati had to face severe water-logging. The devastating showers have taken the lives of nearly 5 people, including two women and a child so far. Many animals also lost their lives due to a wall collapse of Katraj Canal as a result of hefty showers. Multiple houses and vehicles in the Sahkarnagar area were washed away following heavy rains last night.
Realising the gravity of this situation, the collector of Pune has ordered a holiday for all schools and colleges today.
According to the meteorologists at Skymet, the city of Pune would witness more rains, however with reduced intensity now. Short spells of rain mainly moderate in intensity would continue over the city and adjoining areas for another two days. The situation is gradually expected to come under control, however, due precautions must be taken today and tomorrow as well.
Further, September 28 onward, the weather activities would decrease over the city and relief would be seen from the ongoing flood-like situation.
