Parts of Odisha and Chhattisgarh witnessed light to moderate rain and thundershower activities accompanied with strong winds during the last 24 hours. In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Saturday, Balasore recorded 25 mm of rain, followed by Keonjhargarh 17 mm, Baripada 15 mm, Angul 14 mm, Ambikapur 9 mm, Sambalpur 8 mm, Cuttack 6 mm, Paradip 4 mm and Raipur 1 mm.
At present, an upper air cyclonic circulation is marked over West central Bay of Bengal off Andhra Pradesh Coast at mid and upper tropospheric level. Further, we expect this weather system to intensity more.
In the wake of this weather system, moist winds are blowing over Odisha and Chhattisgarh region. Hence, during the next 24 to 36 hours, moderate rain and thundershowers with strong winds will affect many parts of these states. In fact, heavy rains may also occur in parts of Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
Places like Balasore, Ganjam, Raigarh, Angul, Bhubaneshwar, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Raipur, Durg and Pendra will witness these weather activities.
Moreover, due to extensive clouding and occurrence of rainfall, temperatures over most parts of these states will drop and settle below normal. Heat wave will abate completely, but humidity will increase. These rains will also be useful for paddy crops in Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
