Rains will continue in many parts of the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra during the next 18 to 24 hours. Places like Amravati and Akola will witness heavy rains, while light to moderate spells are likely in Nagpur, Gondia, Bhandara, Yavatamal and Chandrapur.
During the last 24 hours, light to moderate rain and thundershower activities were recorded in many parts of Vidarbha. Heavy spells made an appearance at isolated places. Gondia recorded 59.6 mm of rainfall, followed by Gadchiroli 11.4 mm, Wardha 10 mm and Akola 3.9 mm within the past 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday.
These weather conditions were due to a Low-Pressure Area over Northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha Coast. As this system is moving in west/northwest direction, light to moderate rains will continue in parts of Vidarbha for another 18 to 24 hours.
The intensity will be more over the northern parts as compared to southern parts and some places might even experience heavy spells during this period.
Places like Amravati and Akola will experience heavy showers, while other places like Nagpur, Gondia, Bhandara, Yavatmal, and Chandrapur will get to see light to moderate rain and thundershower activities. However, after 24 hours, rainfall activities will decrease.
These rains would be beneficial for the crops of Maize, Soya bean, Cotton, Orange, etc.
Despite rains, the Vidarbha region is standing rain deficient by 4%. However, we expect the upcoming rain to improve the rainfall statistics.
