Several parts of Maharashtra witnessed rainy spells on Tuesday, with heavy rain confining to the pockets of Madhya Maharashtra region only.

Solapur recorded rain at 54.3 mm in a span of last 24 hours till 8 am on Wednesday, followed by Kolhapur at 42.4 mm of rain, Sangli 13.8 mm, Pune 4.4 mm and Satara 1.6 mm.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, wind discontinuity, which was seen over Karnataka till now, has now extended further up to the Madhya Maharashtra, causing rain over the region.

As per the forecast, the region is likely to see some more spells of rain on Wednesday, with activity seizing thereafter.

In the wake of the rain activity, minimum temperatures in the region have registered a significant drop and are now settling below 20°C that is below normal average. On Wednesday morning, Solapur recorded minimum temperature at 18.5°C, which was seven degrees below normal. Similarly, Kolhapur recorded 19.2°C, three degrees below normal.

As we enter into thick of summers, Maharashtra is one of the hottest pockets of the country where both day and night temperatures settle above normal. However, sudden rain due to cyclonic circulation and wind discontinuity brings much-anticipated relief from the scorching summer days and cause a marginal drop in temperatures for a day to two.
