Heavy rain lashed Kodaikanal, Kozhikode in last 24 hours

keralaRain in parts of Peninsular India continues to affect normal life. In past 24 hours, the pre-monsoon showers have been observed in parts of Kerala and adjoining Tamil Nadu.

Winds from opposing direction, Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, meet to cause wind discontinuity in the interiors of Peninsular India that is responsible for rain in the region.

In a span of 24 hours from 8.30 am on Thursday, southern parts of Kerala received good showers. Alappuzha received 4.6 mm of rain, Punalur 30.4 mm of rain, Thiruvananthapuram 3.1 mm and Kochi 19.8 mm of rain. Kozhikode received a heavy rain of 52.6 mm in the past 24 hours.

On the other hand, Kodaikanal in Tamil Nadu received 46 mm of rain in a span of past 24 hours.

The monthly average rainfall in Punalur is 211 mm, Kottayam 133 mm, Kochi 95 mm and Kozhikode 72 mm for April. According to above mentioned figures, rain decreases on its way up the coast of Kerala. And a similar condition can be witnessed at present.
