Heavy rain has been lashing parts of North India for the last two days. Some areas in Uttar Pradesh have also recorded short and intense rainy spells.
On Sunday morning, due to heavy rains, a two-storey building in Meerut collapsed resulting in the death of five people.
Several others have also been reportedly injured. As per reports, out of the five deceased, three of them were children.
Just after a day of torrential rains in the city, the building collapsed. Rescue operations are on their way to the accident site.
Usually, during this season, cumulonimbus clouds develop quite quickly around 10 to 15 km from the ground level, resulting in heavy rain and hailstorm over the region. Strong winds accompany these rainy spells.
As per Skymet, during the next 24 hours, rain is likely to continue over Meerut and adjoining areas. However, these rains will be of reduced intensity.
One or two heavy spells of rain may occur in the region later during the day. Thereafter, rain intensity will significantly decrease over the area.
