Heavy rain in Vijayawada, Bhawanipatna, Sambalpur, Tuni likely

As a cyclonic circulation was seen persisting over Northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha Coast. Due to its effect, moderate to heavy showers were going on over Coastal Andhra Pradesh as well as Odisha. In fact, Darsi in district Prakasam of Andhra Pradesh recorded extremely heavy rainfall activity to the tune of 292 mm.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, Sambalpur recorded 86 mm of rain, followed by Bhawanipatna 84 mm, Titlagarh 73 mm, Koraput 45 mm, Gopalpur 43 mm, Vishakhapatnam 39 mm, Tuni 36 mm, Phulbani 34 mm, Chandbali 28 mm, Angul 18 mm, Narsapur 13 mm.

Now this cyclonic circulation has induced a low-pressure area over the same region. This low-pressure area will move in a westerly direction and is expected to give heavy to very heavy rains over Odisha and North Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Remaining parts of Andhra Pradesh may receive scattered light rains. However, the intensity of rains will be more over the northern parts. Places like Vijayawada, Tuni, Kakinada, Narsapur will receive heavy rainfall activities.

In Odisha, Bhawanipatna, Sambalpur, Titlagarh, Gopalpur, Phulbani and Jharsuguda will receive heavy rainfall activity.

After 24 hours, by August 16, rain intensity will start reducing over Odisha and Andhra Pradesh as these weather systems will move further west towards Chhattisgarh. However, light to moderate rains will still continue and weather will remain comfortable.
