Very heavy rain is expected at places along the foothills of Himalayas including parts ofBihar,Uttar Pradesh,West BengalandAssam. Thus, a flood warning has been issued in these areas for the next 3 to 4 days.
Since the last few days, Monsoon has been driven by Western Disturbance and the Monsoon trough in the absence of any major weather system. The Monsoon trough usually runs along the Indo-Gangetic plains right from Rajasthan across the plains of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal.
Currently, this trough has shifted north of its normal position and is running close to the foothills of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Northeast India. Parts of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh have already received good rains. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday,Chhaprain Bihar received a good 53 mm of rain. Also,Motihariin the same state observed 49 mm of rain.
The shifting of the trough is conducive for causing very heavy rain over parts of East and Northeast India particularly along the foothills of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and the hills of Nepal. Not only will areas along the trough line receive very heavy rain but catchment areas will also receive good amounts of rain.
This heavy spell is expected to last for the next 3 to 4 days resulting in the overflowing of water bodies in the aforementioned areas. Therefore, residents living in these areas have been advised to exercise caution and be alert and well prepared.
