Southwest Monsoon has marked its onset over the entire country including the state of Gujarat. However, being the most rain deficient pocket during the Monsoon season, no good rains had occurred over the state during the month of June, expect one or two showers, in South Gujarat region.
The good news is that tides took a turn and widespread rainfall was observed over Gujarat during the last 24 hours especially the South Gujarat and Saurashtra region.
Moreover, in the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, Porbandar recorded 44.2 mm of rain, followed by Ahmedabad 31.3 mm, Rajkot 6.6 mm, Amreli 4.2 mm, Baroda 2.8 mm, Bhavnagar 2.2 mm, Dwarka 2.3 mm, Idar 7.7 mm.

The reason for these rains can be attributed to the trough extending along the coast. In fact, along with this, a cyclonic circulation is seen over South Rajasthan region and its adjoining areas which has driven the moisture laden southwesterly winds from the Arabian Sea towards Gujarat region.
The combined effect of these features will cause more rain and thundershowers over some parts of Gujarat during the next 24 hours. In fact, in the last three hours between 8:30 am and 11:30 am today, Surat already has recorded 53 mm of rains.
Now, coastal stations including Bhavnagar, Veraval, Amreli, Porbandar, Kandla, Mahua should watch out for some upcoming moderate to heavy rainfall activity.
Meanwhile, light to moderate spells of rains are also expected over cities of Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot, Surendranagar, Okha, Dwarka and Jamnagar during the same time frame.
