Konkan & Goa, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala together combine and form the West Coast, which is also known as one of the rainiest pockets of India during the Southwest Monsoon season. Monsoon has remained active to vigorous over this region till now also, as some places over these regions have seen regular three-digit rainfall activity.

During the last 24 hours also, moderate to heavy showers occurred over some pockets. These rains can be attributed to the off-shore trough which has once again become active and is currently extending right from North Maharashtra Coast up to Coastal Kerala region.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Alibagh recorded heavy rain to the tune of 115 mm, followed by Ratnagiri 107 mm, Harnai 97 mm, Panjim 66 mm, Colaba 62 mm, Santacruz 52 mm, Kannur 40 mm, Honnavar 38.1 mm, Karwar 37.8 mm, Vengurla 36 mm, Mangalore 25 mm, Cochin 21 mm.

Now as the off-shore trough is shifting southwards and the northern portion of the trough is weakening therefore we expect rains to now reduce over North Konkan & Goa, including Mumbai.

However, South Konkan and Coastal Karnataka will continue to receive moderate to heavy spells. Kerala will also witness light to moderate rains with one or two heavy spells during the next 3-4 days.
