Heavy rain in Rajkot, Kandla, Ahmedabad, Amreli, Bhavnagar likely

In Gujarat most places received light to moderate rain showers during the last 24 hours. In fact, some parts also witnessed heavy rainfall activity. Kandla and Ahmedabad recorded very heavy rainfall activity to the tune of 110 mm and 91 mm respectively.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Friday, Gandhinagar recorded 58 mm of rain, followed by Rajkot 44 mm, Amreli 33 mm, Idar 26 mm, Deesa 24 mm, Bhavnagar 16 mm, Vadodara 14 mm, Bhuj 13 mm, Naliya 8 mm, Surat 5 mm, Veraval 3 mm, Dwarka 1 mm and Okha 0.7 mm.

The depression which was over Madhya Pradesh region has now moved west/northwestwards and weakened into a low-pressure. Now the same system lies over parts of Northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining parts of East Rajasthan. An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over South Coastal Gujarat and is extending up to mid tropospheric levels.

Due to the effect of all these systems, we expect rain and thundershower activity to continue over the state of Gujarat during the next 24 36 hours and is expected to decrease gradually.

Spell of rain and thundershower activity with lightning is expected over many places such as - Ahmedabad, Amreli, Anand, Aravali, Banas Kantha, Bharuch, Bhavnagar, Botad, Devbhumi Dwarka, Gandhinagar, Gir Somnath, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Kachchh, Kheda, Mahesana, Mahisagar, Marvi, Narmada, Navsari, Panch Mahals, Patan, Porbandar, Rajkot, Sabar Kantha, Surat, Surendranagar and Vadodara the districts of Gujarat during next 12-18 hours.
