Heavy rain in Pune, Alibag, Jalgaon, Harnai; showers to continue

It seems that rain gods have been very much kind in terms of precipitation over the state of Maharashtra. So much so that Konkan and Goa, Vidarbha, North Madhya Maharashtra as well as Marathwada region has recorded vigorous Monsoon conditions.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday, the dazzling city of Maharashtra, Mumbai recorded a whopping 120 mm of rainfall, followed by Thane wherein 119 mm of very heavy showers. Other districts that observed good rains include Jalgaon 74 mm, Alibag 75 mm, Bhira 67 mm, Dahanu 62 mm, Parbhani 61 mm, Pune 60 mm, Harnai 47 mm, Aurangabad 39 mm, Mahabaleshwar 37 mm, Malegaon 32 mm, Ratnagiri 25 mm, Panjim 23 mm and Nashik 21 mm.

These weather conditions can be attributed to a low pressure area which is seen lying over North Madhya Maharashtra and adjoining Vidarbha.

Due to heavy rains, the weather has become pleasant and most parts of Madhya Maharashtra witnessed comfortable day with day maximum ranging between 23 to 27 degrees. So, comfortable weather will persist for another 24 to 48 hours over the area.

According to Skymet Weather, this weather system will gradually move in west direction and thus weaken. Therefore significant decrease in the rain intensity is expected over Vidarbha, Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra. However, moderate to heavy showers will continue over Konkan and Goa region for the next 24 hours. Then the intensity of rain will decrease over this region as well.

Places like Mumbai, Thane and Ratnagiri may observe good rains for the next 24 hours. Whereas Nashik, Malegaon, Pune and Satara may receive light rains with one or two moderate spells during the next 24 hours. Thereafter the rain intensity will recede over all these areas. Rest parts of Maharashtra particularly Vidarbha and Marathwada will get isolated rains.
