Heavy rain in parts of Odisha, West Bengal likely

Rain in West Bengal

During the last 24 hours, southern parts of Gangetic West Bengal and costal station of Odisha received good amount of rains. Meanwhile, rest all other parts of both these states received light rainfall activity.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Friday, Bhubaneshwar recorded 73.9 mm of rain, Pradip 88.2 mm, followed by Chandabali 64.2 mm, Cuttack 35. 2mm, Angul 17.6 mm, Balasore 25.6 mm, Burdwan 20.2 mm, Jalpaiguri 27.9 mm and Malda 11.5 mm.

A cyclonic circulation has formed over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Coastal Odisha extending up to 3.6 km. Under its influence a low-pressure area may form over Northwest Bay of Bengal and its adjoining region during the next 24 hours.

As the system has formed rainfall activity is expected to increase significantly over northern parts of Odisha and few parts of Gangetic West Bengal.

Places such as Balasore, Jharsuguda, Sundernagar, Purulia Midnapore and Bankura will receive heavy rainfall activity. Coastal stations of Odisha will receive moderate rain with isolated heavy showers and strong winds.

The capital city of West Bengal, Kolkata will receive moderate spell of rain.

Rain will continue over Purulia during the next 24 hours. Adjoining parts of West Bengal will also receive rain during the next 24 hours. Less rains are likely over Baharampur and Malda.
