Heavy rain in Moradabad, Bareilly, Bahraich, Gorakhpur likely

August 22, 2018 3:18 PM |

Rain in Uttar Pradesh

The low-pressure area which was over Northwest Madhya Pradesh has now weakened and the axis of Monsoon trough lies over the southern parts of Uttar Pradesh.

Due to this situation extreme south of Uttar Pradesh and the foothills received scattered light to moderate rains during the last 34 hours.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Jhansi recorded 22 mm of rain, followed by Allahabad 11 mm, Agra 9.4 mm, Bareilly 7 mm and Gorakhpur 0.8 mm.

Now as the low-pressure is becoming less marked and the eastern parts of axis of Monsoon trough are likely to shift northwards and a circulation is expected over East Uttar Pradesh, rainfall activity is likely to increase significantly over most parts of Uttar Pradesh.

The easterly winds will strengthen; therefore, we expect scattered light to moderate rainfall activity over most parts of the state with few heavy spells and these rains are expected to continue for the next 72 hours.

During the next 24 hours, we expect gradual increase of rains and rainfall is mostly likely in parts of Northwest Uttar Pradesh and foothills of eastern parts.

Places such as Bareilly, Pilibhit, Rampur, Moradabad, Bahraich, Firozabad, Gorakhpur are expected to receive heavy rains. Meanwhile, Kanpur, Lucknow, Allahabad, Agra and Varanasi will witness moderate rain showers.
